Elite: Dangerous. How to get most out of your fuel tank

You can use economical routes which is completely unpractical or fastest routes which has short range, but if you have cargo racks installed on your ship then you can limit you maximum jump range to any number between laden and unladen jump range, meaning you can easily double your fastest route distance and do not waste your time.
Elite Dangerous

With fuel being dirt cheap there are situations when you don't need fuel scoop, i.e., if you are switching between trade routes and do not want to waste your time on buying fuel scoop or refueling on your way.

By limiting maximum jump range you will spend much less fuel allowing you to jump much further.

You can limit your jump range in Galaxy Map -> Navigation tab -> Jump Data by using cargo mass slider.

In video below you can see that Anaconda can easily make 218 LY travel with one fuel tank and even gain in time, because economical route will get you there in 36 jumps, fastest in 6 but limiting your jump range to 26 LY will get you there in 9 jumps - only 3 jumps more than fastest and that means only 2 minutes longer. Buying fuel scoop, scooping at stars and selling fuel scoop afterwards would take much more time.
